The School of at UNC offers undergraduate and graduate programs with a particular emphasis on the teaching and learning of mathematics. Our dedicated faculty members are passionate about teaching while maintaining active research programs in mathematics, statistics, computer science and mathematics education. They work closely with undergraduate students, in-service teachers pursuing a Master’s Degree in mathematics, and graduate students pursuing a Ph.D. in Educational Mathematics. Graduates from our programs are schoolteachers, district administrators, college instructors, university professors, and professionals in business, industry, and government. Small classes and approachable professors create a supportive environment for student learning. Undergraduate students can study secondary mathematics education, leading to a career as a middle or high school teacher in mathematics, or specialize in pure or applied math with the option to concentrate on statistics or computer science. Students in our Teaching Emphasis Master’s Degree program take classes in mathematics and mathematics education designed specifically for in-service secondary teachers and those who wish to teach at the community college level. Students in our innovative Ph.D. program in Educational Mathematics study traditional graduate level mathematics in addition to coursework and original research in mathematics education.
